Tell us a little about where you grew up?
I grew up in Georgetown Homes, moving in as a baby with my Mom when it was a brand-new development. I had my family nearby, and my grandfather even worked for the landscaping crew at one point. I remember always playing outside as a kid and walking to my elementary school. With hundreds of units, you better believe it was great for trick-or-treating!! When I was in college, my Mom moved into her dream house in New Bedford.
How did that experience shape you as a person/how did that impact the path that you followed in life?
I had no idea I lived in affordable housing as a child. As a result of the experience, I value access to green space, a walkable community, and knowing my neighbors.
Why is affordable housing important now?
Until we all become millionaires, we will need affordable housing. It is essential now to meet the needs of families, young professionals, seniors, and those with low and vulnerable incomes. Affordable housing builds diverse, thriving communities.
